Pranayama- Nadi Shodana – For common person

Manipulation of the vital force that is “Prana” is called as Pranayama. This is happening with or without our awareness. The center in the pons and medulla are responsible for the involuntary respiration. As the neural pathway, the muscles will work. But by conscious manipulation, the awareness on that involuntary respiration pathway as mastery or avoid idiopathic respiratory problems like nasal Allergy, Asthma, Bronchitis, etc., at least. Let us know the little normal scientific information about respiratory muscles and their connection with the Pons and Medulla oblongata (parts of the brain stem).

Here is one of the Pranayama techniques which balance the whole bodily functions. That is Nadishodana pranayama. The name Shodana means “to search” and Nadi means the “channel” through which the prana or energy travels (Bioplasmic energy). By conscious effort that is engagement of brain on; (1) the inhalation, exhalation phases of breath cycle, (2) on the alternate paths of air, (3) temperature changes of two phases, (4) depth of two phases, (5) coordination of one side nostril and breath, (6) synchronization of movement with breath. Hence the mind will be in the present situation. This is meditation technique also. If the physical brain and its subtle form, mind are on one work (physical) then there will be a state of effortlessness, silence. This starts the balancing of all hormonal activity, neural activity. After the practice physically person can experience that balanced state of mind for few more minutes to hours. This is the habituation we can give to the respiratory system. Hence there will not be any chance for the imbalanced functioning of organs which leads to nasal Allergy, Asthma, Bronchitis, etc.,

Technique:

Step-1: Sit in a comfortable position with the active spine.

Step-2: Adopt chin mudra with left hand on knees

Step-3: Adopt Nasika mudra with the right hand. Place the thumb on right nostril, keep the ring finger ready to close or open the left nostril.

Step-4: Inhale through left nostril and close, later

Open the thumb and exhale through right nostril, later

Inhale through right nostril and close, later

Open the left nostril and exhale (1 round).

Step-5: Repeat for 80 cycles for best results.

Dosage: Daily in the morning and evening within a vibrant environment like temple or school. This is good for any age and any diseased person.

  2. Pituitary: Enough homeostasis
  3. Lungs: Enough oxygenation to the body
  4. Heart: enough purification of blood
  5. Thymus gland: enough time for immunization or T-cell formation.
  6. Liver: Enough glycogen and Bile formation
  7. Gastro Intestinal Tract (Stomach to Anus): Enough pressure to those smooth muscles. Enough absorption of nutrients into the blood.
  8. Pancreas: Enough work load to produce insulin and glucagon for energy conversions.
  9. Adrenals: Enough space before the reaction to stress.
  10. Gonads: Enough strength to mastery on reproductive organs.

All these small enough things are required for the daily natural repairs of the body.
